The Gidzic Project

It has been quite some time since we updated this page but oh my goodness how much has happened in that space of time!

We can’t just walk away!

During the past fifteen years of visiting and helping people in need in Kosova there have been times we we have said it just can’t get any worse than this, well it has.

October 2015 Visit.

It has been a quiet couple of months since our successful summer team programme in Kosova. Colin and Gail are in Kosova this week spending time with different folks about the ongoing and future work of the group.

Gail will also be involved with the two Palliative Care training sessions in Shtime and Ferizaj later in the week along with Mary Packer, Helena Moxon and other medical professionals in the region.

Team Update

The team arrived on Tuesday evening and have had a busy schedule so far. The KSG have been working for many years with SOS Kinderdorf in Pristina and as in other years we provided food parcels for twenty families, Albanian, Serbian and Roma.

On Thursday afternoon we visited The Ideas Partnership (TIP) in Fushe Kosovë and saw their Kindergarten in operation.  An amazing project, a facility full of colour and learning materials for young minds. Amazing work being carried out in a number of different projects in Fushe Kosovë by TIP.

Kids clubs are going well and tomorrow sees the start of our work with teens and mums.  We are hoping for a little bit of cooler weather as it has been so hot these past few days.

We enjoyed worship in the Alpha and Omega Church in Ferizaj this morning, helping to lead the praise, a joy and pleasure to be part of their church family.

Summer Team 2015 preparations.

Gail has been busy in Kosova these past few days making sure all the arrangements are in place for our summer team’s arrival in Pristina on Tuesday 14th July.  Social activities, food deliveries, family visits and spending time with our friends in the Alpha and Omega Church in Ferizaj make up our itinerary, it promises to be a busy 12 days!

Gifts from children, to children.

This morning Colin and Gail were at Killeshill Church near Ballygawley to receive toys from the children of the Parish to take to Kosova. Each of the children brought a toy as a gift for a child who they will never meet or know. A lesson in how to love our neighbour and reach our hands across the world to help others. Thank you Rev Ian for your warm welcome and the opportunity to speak with the children.

Summer Team 2015

The team, Josh Harbinson, Alan Duddy, Tim Woodrow, Joanna Gallagher, Claire Francis, Katie Hill, Sandra Gallagher, Colin Dewar and Gail Dewar will travel to Kosova mid July and will have a busy schedule running kid’s clubs, women’s groups, teens activities, and delivering food parcels to needy families.

Easter Visits 2015

There was no Easter team this year but Gail made two visits in April, one during the Easter week to visit projects and make plans for the summer team and the other between 19th and 25th April for the Palliative Care Roadshow which had been organised.

Musical Evening

On Friday 12th June a Musical Evening was organised as a fundraiser for this years summer team. It was a wonderful night with a selection of music performed buy a number of different people of varying ages.

Thank you to everyone who made this evening such a success and gave of their time so willingly and to the audience who attended and who were so generous in their giving.

Visit from our Friends from Kosova

In February 2015 we welcomed Dr Mary Packer and Kadrije Berisha from Livelink Kosovo to Belfast.  It was a joy to have these two ladies with us. It was a busy schedule visiting the Northern Ireland Hospice, Dominican College Fortwilliam, St Andrews Play Group, The Ulster Hospital A&E Department and First Holywood Presbyterian Church.

This was Kadrije’s first visit to Northern Ireland, it was a short busy visit but a fruitful and informative one for both her and Mary.
